Egerton Wasps

 The Egerton University Sports and Games section, manned by qualified and experienced personnel, is dedicated to providing high-quality recreational and competitive sports programmes for all students. Beyond offering fitness and recreation, the section plays a pivotal role in identifying and nurturing athletic talent through structured coaching, skills development, and regular sports awareness activities. 

Through these comprehensive initiatives, Egerton students actively represent the institution across a wide spectrum of competitions—ranging from regional and national university leagues to East African, continental, and global university games.

Mandate

 

  • Provide quality sport and recreation programmes.
  • Identify and nurture talent, train and coach techniques.
  • Provide information on the importance of sports and games to students.

Competitions & Leagues

 

Egerton University participates in Kenya Inter University Games at both conference level (KUSA-Rift) and national level (KUSA), national leagues and tournaments, East Africa University Games (EAUSF), Africa University Games (FASU) and World University Games (FISU).

Njoro Campus Facilities

 

 

The campus has excellent sports facilities, which include a swimming pool, a sports pavilion with a large seating capacity, field and track facilities. Indoor game facilities are found in various junior common rooms in the halls of residence and at the student center.

  • Ball games: Soccer, Basketball, Rugby, Handball, Netball, Softball, Hockey, Volleyball, Woodball
  • Racquet games: Tennis, Badminton, Table tennis
  • Board games: Chess, Scrabble, Ajua, Darts
  • Martial Arts: Karate, Tae kwondo
  • Other Disciplines: Athletics, Swimming, Aerobics, Body building

Location & Training

 

Nakuru City Campus College Sports and games department offers an array of disciplines including Soccer, Handball, Badminton, Tennis, Chess, Scrabble, Table Tennis, Netball, Rugby, Volleyball, Athletics, Hockey, and Martial Arts. Recreational sport is encouraged through Intramurals like Inter-Years and Inter-Faculty competitions.

  • Training Schedule: Students train at Afraha High School on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
  • Teams: For competitive sports, there are standing/combined teams with Njoro campus.
  • Equipment & Kits: Equipment is provided by the campus, but students must bring their own personal training kits.
